Knollwood ecosystem field trips

Students will learn about the diverse ecosystem at Knollwood, including pasture, grassland, forest, and agricultural cultivated land. Lessons cover three types of an ecosystem including producers ( plants, herbs) consumers ( bees and poultry) decomposer ( mushrooms, fungi)

Agriculture classes

Throughout the year, a wide variety of classes are offered for the student to be learners of agricultural skills and keepers of the earth and environment. The classes include instruction with hands-on and outside experiences. Each class teaches the basic biology of the plant, how to grow, harvest, and cook with the food. The classes are designed based on age appropriateness and no more than 10-12 students for mastering the skill.

Poultry and chick care classes

Experience poultry care and production on Knollwood farm. Topics covered are Henhouse engineering, hatching science, and eggology ( egg incubation). Classes are broken down for age appropriateness and include many opportunities for hands-on experiences through our learning center. Classes are offered in the spring when Knollwood has chicks hatching.

Beekeeping classes

Students have the opportunity to learn and observe a bee colony in a safe and controlled environment. They learn about honey bee anatomy, cycles, forager, pollination, and preservation of honey. Students will observe the bee's busy day through an observation window. Students end their day with harvesting honey and sampling.

Intern, volunteer and mentorship program

Students between the ages of 14-22 have the opportunity to join one of the programs based on interest and future goals. Mentorship program gives the student opportunities for working on the farm to gain experience for agriculture college degrees or scholarship application Volunteer hours and interns are for the student who has to meet a school requirement or wants to build a skill for their resume.
